Civil Engineering : The discipline
Civil Engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, Construction and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environmental works such as bridges, roads, canals, dams and buildings. It is the oldest engineering discipline next to the military engineering. The Civil engg. Discipline has several streams, such as structural engg, environmental engg., geotechnical engg, water recourses engg, transportation engg, construction engg, materials engg, surveying, coastal and urban community planning. Civil engineering happens to deal with several public sectors like municipal and in private sector from individual home owners to international companies. Scope of civil engg in india is out spreading. Opportunities exist both in public and private sector in large numbers and in all branches of design, construction and maintenance, infrastructural dev. Both in india and abroad. Right now constructions of industry are booming as there is growth of infrastructural development both in our state and in india. This is going to stay for next few decades. Scope of civil engg lies with many developing countries in the middle east, Africa, Asia where infrastructure development is picking up.
Civil Engineering : Job Market
Plenty of jobs are available in different sectors of construction both in public sector and private sector, notable are public works department (both state & central), public health engineering dept., water resources department, central water commission, watershed management, railways, steel plants, all india radio & doordarsan, central road research institute, central building research institute, few ICAR institutes like: CIFA, DWM, WTC, CSWCRTI, several project based research work under ICAR & CSIR. Computer companies like: TCS, INFOSYS, WIPRO, IBM & CTS are also job providers. Several builders are coming forward in the market offering high collar job to civil engineers. Job is also available in NTPC, Central Hydro Power construction and WAPCOS.
