On 27th September 2024, students from TempleCity Institute of Technology and Engineering (TITE) visited IREL (INDIA) Limited, a Miniratna company of the Government of India, located in Chhatrapur, Ganjam district, Odisha. Orissa Sands Complex (OSCOM) is one of IREL’s flagship units, situated near the all-weather Gopalpur port about 150 km from the college.
The visit began with an audiovisual session at the Training Centre, introducing students to the company’s products and their applications in daily life and high-tech industries such as chip manufacturing, aerospace, and atomic energy. Students learned about the strategic mining of heavy metals from beach sand, including minerals like Ilmenite, Rutile, Zircon, Sillimanite, and Garnet. The processes of mining, mineral separation, and forwarding materials for further processing were explained in detail.
Following the presentation, students toured the mining sites to observe excavation methods and visited mineral separation units. The visit also included sightseeing stops at Aryapalli, Gopalpur Beach, and Tampara Lake, providing a well-rounded educational experience.
